I don't know if a beetle generator will work, but a Fastback or Square back genny will with slight mods. Someone on this list has a page that describes the mods in great detail, but I can't remember who. Chris in NC

Bob,
While your at the auto parts check on VW beetle generator models for the regulator and possibly a generator itself. They use a Lucas brand regulator which might work.

Tim, Thanks a lot. I am going to go to the Guzzi dealer here and see what he has today other than the $110 new GUzzi regulator. Will also take the regulator to an auto parts store to see if they have a similar looking regulator. Also, I think I need a new generator as I think this one is beat. I am beginning to figure that if I change out generator and regulator combined with me just refurbishing the starter I ought to have a more reliable bike. Man, this process sure is time consuming! Thanks again Tim, BOb ----- Original Message ----- From: Tim Crump <crum-@msn.com> To: <Loopfram-@topica.com> Sent: Monday, July 02, 2001 10:53 PM Subject: Re: Regulator

Hey Bob,
When I first got my Ambo, it had a Bosch regulator on it, which is incompatible with the Marelli generator. I took it to a good shop and |
the
| | tech tested the generator, and then they sold me a regulator that was |
for a
| | '65 Ford, for $10. It was identical to the regulator as shown in the Loopframe repair manual. It worked for a while then my system went out, |
but
| | it was the generator. I since had Mark, at MG Classics rewire most of |
it,
| | and he put on a good generator and regulator. The same tech just rebuilt my starter. I will see what he gets for them, |
and
| | what they are in other places. I think thhis is mentioned in the Tips |
book,
| | too.
Current wisdom has it that you need the Marelli regulator, or a Lucas. |
Even
| | the Lucas was only about $35 dollars, last time I checked.
