No offense intended here, but are you sure it is the regulator? I thought my regulator was bad and it turned out to be a dead cell in the battery. As soon as I installed a new battery all my running and starting problems disappeared. (Perhaps you have read my whining e-mails over the past year about my sorry ass Ambassador.) There are guys on this list that can guide you better than I but here's more (if you can stand it). It may be cheaper to try a new battery. If you determine that it is not the battery you can hook up a regulator which normally is intended for a 1962-64 Ford Falcon. I bought one for $25 at a local auto parts store. I never used it because I found out the problem was my battery but guys on the list have stated that they have used this regulator. Also, your Marelli may just need some servicing. Open her up, take the cover off. There are 3 sets of points in there. See if you can see the points opening and closing when the bike is running. Rev the bike and see if the points open and close. If you see no action take the regulator out of the bike. Using very fine emery paper clean between the points with the paper. Don't over sand the points. After doing this blow the unit off so that all the little metal sandings don't get in the way of the action. Operate the points by hand. Be sure you are seeing them open and close. There are 3 flat springs that hold the points open or closed. Be sure the tension on these springs is good - you can adjust the springs. Finally, I don't know how much a regulator "normally" costs but there is one at Sport Cycle. I just had my hands on it - I actually tried it on my bike, again it was the battery. I think Dave Brown wanted $50 for it. Check their web page and mention my name, it may help.
