Many people have successfully replaced the original Magneti Marelli and Bosch starters with the modern Valeo starter and/or generic copies of the Valeo. However, Andrea Mariotti recently reported () that the non-original copy of the Valeo starter would not work with his Eldorado with a 5 speed transmission. The problem is that the nose of the starter created a physical interference with the ring gear - jamming the engine and preventing rotation.
Therefore, be sure to check for adequate clearance during installation.
