V7 Sport starter relay electrical connections

Original starter

  • Black wire to ground (light gauge wire)
  • Brown wire to handlebar mounted starter button (light gauge wire)
  • Black wire to battery positive terminal (heavy gauge wire)
  • Black wire to starter (heavy gauge wire)

Common replacement Bosch starter (as used on Guzzis of the same era)

  • Relay terminal 30 - Red wire from fuse box
  • Relay terminal 85 - Black wire to ground
  • Relay terminal 86 - Brown wire from handlebar mounted starter button
  • Relay terminal 87 - Red wire to starter solenoid

750 S starter relay electrical connections

Original starter

  • Black wire to ground (light gauge wire)
  • Brown wire to handlebar mounted starter button (light gauge wire)

The clutch cable switch requires that the clutch lever be pulled in before the starter can be engaged.

  • Relay terminal 30 - Brown wire from fuse box

    Note: Another brown wire goes from terminal 30 to the clutch cable switch

  • Relay terminal 85 - White/black wire from handlebar mounted starter button
  • Relay terminal 86 - Violet wire from clutch cable switch
  • Relay terminal 87 - Red wire to starter solenoid

No clutch cable switch

  • Relay terminal 30 - Brown wire from fuse box
  • Relay terminal 85 - White/black wire from handlebar mounted starter button
  • Relay terminal 86 - Brown wire from terminal 30
  • Relay terminal 87 - Red wire to starter solenoid
