Ditto on that. I had that problem on my Ambassador. When it starts cutting
out, reach down and open the gas cap. If the bike comes back to life shortly
thereafter, suspect the cap vent.

On how to check the condenser, replace it with a known good one. You should
always carry a spare set of points and a condenser in your tool box anyway,
along with a set of plugs, spare front brake cable (which can double as a clutch
cable in a pinch), fuses, tape, spare tire, exhaust gaskets, pipe wrench and at
least a case of good quality beer (plus a few bags of ice to keep it cold). Now
you know the real reason why the sidecar was invented!

Seriously though, if you have the factory tool kit, you can damn near field
strip the bike on the side of the road. A few spare parts won't hurt either.
You should also carry a cell phone with the numbers of every person you know who
owns a pickup truck programed into speed dial. Wait, is this the Old Guzzi list
or the Old Harley list? I'm so confused.
