Hi Dave,

I had the same problem with the old petcocks on my Ambo and bought a set of
modified ones for later model Guzzi from Moto International. By the way...I
too was a little peed when they charged me extra shipping because I asked
them to ship US Post. But everyone has to make a living eh? :-)

When I installed the later petcocks they interferred with the throttle
cables on the left carb. I need to do something about that but it is ok for
now so they will work. I ordered the straight ones but I believe that you
can order ones that are 90 degrees. They might work better.

As for the old petcocks. I ordered new insert gaskets...I think from Eish. I
will attempt to install them and hopefully the petcocks won't leak. Most of
my problems with my bike have been those dam petcocks and leaky carbs.

As for fuel flow.....sounds like you migh be getting a little vapour lock.
How is the flow with the gas cap open? Maybe the gasket turned and is
partially blocking the opening?

Hope this ramble helps.......Ian

I have an ongoing problem with my '71 Ambassador that I would really
like to solve. My gasoline tank petcocks are not functioning properly.
I replaced the rubber gaskets that had gone to hell with ones I made out
of Vitan.
They worked fine for about 6 months. Now, the left petcock does not
work at all and the right one only wants to feed the left carb. I have
the crossover installed between the two, but fuel only wants to flow to
the right side carb. Flow is really the wrong word to use anyway. It's
more like a trickle. The lines are clear, I made sure of that. I have
clear fuel filters in both lines, just before the carbs so I can see
where the fuel is going (and not going).

I'd like to get the proper petcock gaskets but I've been told they are
no longer available. Moto International said they had them and so I
bought them, but they were the wrong ones. Not only that, they charged
me $4.50 shipping on something they could have mailed for 50 cents (I'm
still pissed about that).

Does anybody know of a proper fix, or better yet, a replacement petcock
that will work?

Don't make me bolt on my spare set of Harley Fat Bob gas tanks!

Dave
