I think asking for people to introduce themselves was a great idea- so is
this list.
My name is Paul Bacon and I live in Grass Valley, Calif. I bought my first
MG, a 1980 1000SP, new in 1982 and soon after joined the MGNOC. I put
nearly 70,000mi on the SP and had a wail of a good time, it suited my
riding style perfectly. Personal reasons forced me to sell the bike a few
years ago and I immediately started to have withdrawals. In April of 1999 I
finally was able to buy another Moto Guzzi, this time a 1973 Eldorado
(civilian). I found the bike on the MGNOC classified web site, flew to
Idaho to take delivery and rode it back to Grass Valley- a few inches of
snow on the ground, no windshield and nothing but smiles all the way home!
The loopframe Guzzi is truly a unique motorcycle. Since I acquired the bike
I have rebuilt the carbs, installed Mac mufflers and windscreen (Mark's
Cycle) and had a custom seat made (in Sacramento).
The saying "when it rains, it pours" seams to fit- not long after I picked
up my Eldo a friend of mine called and asked if I could help her find a
good home for her late husbands 3 Eldorado motorcycles- no problem I say! I
bought 2 of them and another friend bought the 3rd, a '74 police style. Of
the 2 that I bought I will keep one and finish restoring and the other
which is pretty rough but certainly restorable I would like to sell.
Well that's my story. Keep your wheels spinning and hope to see you at the
National Rally next year right here in Grass Valley!
