Bit tricky to get a torque wrench on manifolds, anyway they strip from being
loose usually! Do them up tight with C-wrench then lockwire to something
[drill hole in head (bike of course)]. Better yet get new manifold clamps
with lockring, expensive but effective.

Subject: New Owner with a Dumb Question

Ok All, I'm new to Guzzi's, just picked up a 71 LAPD Ambo and have read
up on the V700 - 850 Eldo's, quite an interesting history. Book
describes everything well, including how to say "Guzzi" the proper way,
BUT it never tells how these bikes got the nickname "Goose" though it
does call these bikes "Goose" in a few pics. Where did this nickname
come from? A take off from "Guzzi"?

Also, I have ordered a complete exhaust (new mufflers, used header
pipes), any advice on the install? I have heard about hazards with
stripping the threads on the heads, how tight (torque value) should I
make the exhaust bolt?

Thanx!
