I need some help, folks. My Ambo is running so bad
now that I cannot even ride it. This problem has been
developing gradually. It wasn't running very well on
the way to work t'other day, but on the way home it
got really bad. I couldn't make it all the way home -
it would loose power and backfire a lot, then regain
power for a few seconds, then loose power again. It
isn't that it won't fire at all: but it misfires a lot
and most fo the time when it does fire it doesn't
produce much power. I left it in a friend's garage
half way between work and home.
I have completely cleaned the carbs and fuel finters,
and replaced the choke o-rings. I put in new spark
plugs, a different (not new, but good) coil, new spark
plug wires, checked the timing and points (which are
clean), and looked for shorts in the obvious places. I
have not changed the condenser, because I am not sure
if a malfunctioning condenser would cause these
symptoms - it would just cause the points to burn, no?
How exactly does a condenser work?
I have the distributor at home now, thinking perhaps
the points aren't grounding do to the oil and dirt on
the plate that they attach to. Other then that and the
condenser, I can't think of anything else to check.
Any ideas?????

Just had a somewhat similar problem with my Ambo, and found it
to be very dirty in the distributor. I took the plate out that the
points sit on, and cleaned it, and everything under it with good
contact cleaner and Q-tips. Put it back together with new points
(old ones were getting very pitted) and a new condenser. Runs
great now, but with having changed three variables am not sure
which it was causing the problem. I'd just change the condenser if
I were you. Good luck,
