Brad,
I am restoring a 67 V700 now, and have been doing a lot of polishing. I
found that cleaning the heavy grunge with SOS pads and then using Mothers
I have tried several and this one works the best) chrome/aluminum polish
works well. I also bought a polishing kit from Sears that works well with a
drill, I follow up with the mothers after polishing. I have cleaned every
piece of metal on the Bike. Another option if you have the cash is letting
Moe at Cycle Garden rebuild the wheels I think it is $440 a set. If you
want to clean the motor Use Mag wheel cleaner for none Clear coated wheels,
just make sure you rinse well. I think I used Eagle 1. As far as getting
her running I found there are many opinions about the Chrome cylinders, I
put mystery oil down the spark plug holes, dropped the pan and cleaned
everything I could reach, put in new oil and rebuilt the carbs and fired it
up. I am going to take another look and check for metal flakes in the oil,
hopefully it will be clean. An alternative is to do a compression check low
pressure may indicate flaking. Ian is a lot of help.

Good Luck,
Rick

Thanks for the welcome to your group. This past weekend I brought home
my next project, everyone says its alot of work but I could'nt sit by
and watch this bike parted out. If it shows up on Ebay i want to be the
one who puts it there. supposedly a 1967 V 7. It has Ambo side covers
and possibly forks but everything else seems to be V7.
Currently riding a 95 Cal 1100i, just returned to minneapolis from a
trip around Lake Superior. Fabulous ride, take it if you can.
Some of my first questions follow, 1. Should I restore to factory
colors? Is value decreased if not?
2. motor turns over and looks very clean viewed from below w/sump off
and under rocker covers, should I overhaul or get it running the way it
is?
3. how to clean and polish wheels and other aluminum parts?
4. I need a speedo and housing!
I'll be back w/more questions soon, thx Brad
