Hi,

I'm new to this list - very informative so far - thanks.

I'd appreciate any advice/opinions on my problem. I have a '73 El Dorado
which I'm in the process of restoring. (See attachment). I've got it running
great, with one exception: a loud "tapping/banging" noise from the right
cylinder above 3000 rpm. I thought it was a valve train issue, so I replaced
the rocker arms, which were a little wobbly feeling, and put new bushings in
them. That didn't help much, so now my belief is that it is piston slap. A
couple of people confirmed my opinion - and the fact that the noise
diminishes when under load, either accelerating or decelerating, seems to
bear this out. In any event, I'm prepared to replace the cylinders and
pistons. I've located a lightly used set (on ebay) that are billed as 1000cc
@ 88 mm bore. My question is - will I need to do anything significant to the
heads or carburetors to accomodate the increased displacement, or should it
just be a case of installing the new cylinders/pistons and making
mixture/idle adjustments? Anything I should watch out for in the
disassembly/assembly process or is it staightforward?

Informed advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
