I've always used the Castrol Synthetic 20w50 (is this the GTX?). I change
at 1000-1200, never more than 1200. In the rear differential, I use
Valvoline 80w90, and have had no problems.

HI Keith,

I suppose that some listers will not like all the input that is surely to
come from this but I am interested in what people use in their Loops
although I am pretty much stuck on what I use...which is Castrol GTX 20W50.

I have been interested in trying synthetic but I wonder if it will make any
difference for the price. I change my oil frequently (never over 1200 miles)
so I am not all that worried about viscosity breakdown. Also, once I figured
out that my oil leak wasn't a leaky rear seal but rather a leaky pan gasket
(which was solved once I tightened the pan bolts) I'm not to worried about
losing all that expensive oil :-)

On the lubricants issue, I was wondering what people are using in their
trannys and rears. I was using 80W90 but recently, when at Dave's place I
used 80W140 (in that range). I was wondering if there was a difference in
that?

Regards...Ian

What type of Engine Oil do y'all use? I had heard at a seminar that
m/c's need m/c oil and that normal automotive oil when new is only as
good as used m/c oil. My Guzzi mechanic says he uses 20W50 Motor Oil
(Quaker state or Pennsoil - PA oils). I have heard Mobil 1 is a good
choice but can cause leaks. Any input?

Thanx!
