When I first got my 71 LAPD Ambo, the previous owner told me it was near
impossible to get the beast on the centerstand alone. We pushed her
into my garage and together fought to get her on the centerstand. I
couldn't believe how hard it was, so figured something must have been
wrong with the way we were doing it, so I checked it out. Turns out, I
was pushing on the center cross bar on the stand (the one you use to
push the stand down from it's upright position), when I should have been
pushing on the left leg once the stand was down on the ground. It's
simple now, left hand on left handle bar grip, right foot on left
centerstand leg, right hand on rear crash bar, lean your body back
towards the rear of the bike, push your leg, and pull that crash bar and
handle bar, voila! Simple as it should be!

 Hi Richard,
I couldn't resist I haven't figured out the trick yet, so I use a floor
jack to get the damn thing in the air and pull the stand down. I
figured I
would use the side stand in public :-)

 Hi Richard,
It is also helpful if you have saddlebags to push rearward with your
leg.
Lubricate the pivot bolts to make sure the centerstand works smoothly.

 Hi Richard,

I struggled with my stand for a while and I got so tired of calling to
the

girlfriend to help me pull it on the centerstand....kind of embarrasing
in

 public you know :-)

I finallly figured the trick.

Step on the very bottom (back) of the stand. The part that touches the
ground. If you do that, get a good grip on the crash bars and get your
weight right the bike should roll up on the stand fairly easily.

Since my newly acquired Ambassador is a first 'loopframe' for me I
just

would like to ask one question? How in the heck can you put it on the
centerstand? Is there a trick that is learned?
