Hi Brad,
Depending on how rusty it is, you may be able to use the "Kreem" system
to remove the rust and then coat the inside. It will rust again if left
uncoated. "Kreem" is a three part system, "A" is an acid to disolve the
rust (I leave it in for four days to etch really rusty tanks) and etch
the metal, "B" is MEK to get rid of any water left after "A" and prepare
for the coating (do not let this part get on your paint), "C" is the
coating itself. I've done about a half dozen tanks this way - it is my
least favorite job of all!
I believe there was a post about using Muriatic acid to remove rust
also, but I will leave that to someone who still has the post. In
Walneck's there is an ad for "Rusteco" which is claimed to remove rust
without harming the paint. The address is: www.rusteco.com
Has anyone used this product?
