My 71 Ambo used to pop out of neutral from time to time. I adjusted the
linkage out (longer) on the tie rod that connects the shifter shaft to the
quadrant on back of the transmission. That solved it. I also replaced the
pins on the tie rod ends. They have been worn down over the years and
caused a lot of slop in the linkage.

Subject: neutral problems; gas milage

Hi, Ian. My 69 Ambo pops out of first now and then,
too. That can be dangerous! I, too, would like to know
why this happens. I do not get any "false neutrals"
though - my neutral light has been very reliable.

To add my 2 cents to the gas milage thread, I average
around 42 MPG, with UNI filter pods and a V700 rear.
