Subject: Naive question on Final Drive breather?

My Ambassador came with what looks like a breather hood on top of
the final drive filler bolt. It does not mist or get even the least bit oily
at all. I have yet to remove it to get a better look as yet as the previous
owner had a receipt for (fluid) being changed 3000 miles ago. I have yet to
see another one like it on any other Guzzis I have looked at. Was this an
add-on? Beneficial? Harmful? I plan on doing the refresh with moly soon but
am curious about this. Ideas or facts?
