Great info here from Tim. When I picked up my 71 Police Ambo in August
of this year, I searched the web high and low for info and picked up
Greg Fields' book "Moto Guzzi Big Twins", some excellent info and
history of Guzzi and Loopframes. Best websites I found for info on our
bikes are:
1. This one!
2. www.cyclegarden.com, dedicated to the loopframes, some great pics!
3. www.mgnoc.com, Moto Guzzi National Owners Club site.
4. www.loopframe.com, David Otis' site for loopframes
5. www.chaseplace.net/guzzi, Guzzi fans site, lots of pics and info
6. www.narma.org/euro/brands/motoguzzi.htm, just found this one
7. www.harpermotoguzzi.com, great people, lots of parts
8. www.mgcycle.com, Rick is fantastic, has great knowledge of these
machines and loves to share info on Guzzi's, great prices too on most
parts.
Think that's mostly where I have learned about these machines and these
are the websites I frequent. E-bay (www.e-bay.com) usually has lots of
parts on auction for these bikes too, just search on "Moto Guzzi", click
on "all of e-bay", think theres about 5+ pages of Guzzi stuff currently.
I also don't want to forget to mention Mark at MG Classics. He is
known to do excellent restore work and was very helpful in providing me
with info on how to clean up my Ambo, I hear he is also a master of
knowledge when it comes to police bikes and old loopframes. I don't
know if he has a webpage but you will see him pop up with messages on
this board - his e-mail is guzzi-@aol.com.
Welcome to the Loopframe family, all of the people I have met thus far
have been fantastic & trustworthy, don't think you'll find a better
group of people than a Guuzi owner, especially a Loopframe owner!

No, though there may a few interchangeable parts. Generally, the parts are listed as Eldo. It will have more in common with Ambassadors.
The most obvious touch is the BIG speedo, with lights and switches, as opposed to the dual clocks.
Yes you could make a police model. It depends on how perfect you want it to be. Personally, I'd like an Eldo to make a police model form, but mostly just the illusion. Real Police models had the ignition key under the left rear corner of the solo saddle. They also had crash bars front and rear, with the front ones drilled and tapped to carry accessories. If you just went with the solos saddle, police windshield, and some apprpriate lights, it would look the part without breaking your bank.
I'd focus on getting it mechanically sound first. An Eldo in good shape is a joy to ride. It will pull wheelies in second gear, and carry you and your gear all day with no effort.
I have a Centauro that satisfies my hooligan side, but I think I like my Ambo better for just general riding.....probably some deja vu involved, since it is the spitting image of my first Guzzi.
