Hi Ian,
I just got back from Alabama, no fishing, to cold for me at 18 degrees and
my cousin was sick. I saw this email, as you know I am restoring a set of
wixoms now for my 67. I drilled all of the rivets out of the chrome,
latches, and hinges to make it easier for painting and making it easier for
polishing the chrome. Next I washed the bags with a S.O.S pad to get all of
the dirt off, rinse well. Once this is done I took the advice from the list
on applying body putty to make the bags smooth, (depends if you want a
smooth bag). I have one area I have to refiberglass on ,ine but this is
real easy works kinda like bondo. Anyway once the putty was dry I sanded
the putty by hand until it was smooth, next I applied sandable primer,
re-sanded, re-primed, re-sanded, ect untill I was happy that the surface was
flat enough. Next I applied Black appliance epoxy (Spray type) on for the
finish, looks great and is easy to paint. I found out that you need to let
it dry for a least a week before you let it lie on the ground (it stays a
little soft I should have read the can better), any way I have one side
almost finished and the epoxy shines like a Gem. Wal-Mart sells some lens
that fit the light also this is non-tried info I have seen them and they
look like they will fit, this was passed from the list also.
Any way I was wondering where you bought those UNI-filters? I am bidding
on some Fishtails now on Ebay, probably will loose out I hate bidding on
this stuff, no photo and I am waiting on the seller to email me.

Good luck on the Bags,
Rick

Hi All,

Can anyone offer some advice as to restoring an old set of Wixom bags for
my
Ambo? I was going to attempt the job myself but I just don't have the time
(or the skills really) to get it done.

The set is the small (curved) ones that went on the Loopframes. The
fiberglass is pretty good but needs to be patched and painted. The locks
could be replaced too.

Anyone had theirs done and can offer recommendations. What should I be
looking at as far as cost.

Thanks for the bandwidth.....Ian Adkins
