Hey Peter,

Glad to see you hear! Before ripping apart the front end, try to loosen
up the head bearing nuts, move the bars left to right to loosen things
up a bit, then re-torque to specs. My Guzzi mechanic did this to my 71
Ambo and it seems to have relieved 90-95% of the notchiness. It still
has just a click or 2 at dead center, but nothing like it was - used to
click throughout the entire side to side range, not anymore. Mechanic
seems to feel the little that is left may work itself out, at least
worth a try before tearing the whole front end apart!

Good Luck!

My head bearing is not smooth, has kind of a notchy feeling. I assume
it needs to be replaced. I want to tackle it myself but I like to work
from some info/ experience/ drawings etc, so I dont screw anything up
when I dig into it. I have the shop manual and Guzziology and the Tips

book from MGNOC but they dont give much detail about the front end. I
did see in the Tips book, a diagram of a tool to pull the fork tubes
back up during re-assembly. I'm going to make one of those.
Is there a exploded veiw or a diagram of the front end anywhere on the
web scanned in? I especailly want to know where the seals are so I dont

damage them.
Any tips or suggestions how to get the bearings off and then new pressed

on?
Thanks a lot
