Bill,

I have KN's on my 69 Ambo. When I got the bike they were directly connected
to the carbs (without the screw in filter mounts). It is a tight fit.

Interesting info about the air flow throught the mounts though. I have had
good performance with my bike set up the way it is and good fuel mileage. It
would be interesting to do a comparasin.

On my 70 Ambo I mounted the UNI filters. They mount easily on the screw in
filter mounts. You might think of going that way?

Hope this helps....regards...Ian

Hope someone can answer this question for me. I bought K&N's (R0642)
for the VHB29s.. I assumed they would just fit over the existing filter
mounts... but there doesn't seem to be enough clearance... or either I'm
not doing it right (more likely). They would fit fine with the filter
mounts removed and attached directly to the carbs... Is this the way
they mount or what am I doing wrong? Hope this makes sense, as I'm
probably not using the right terminology.

By the way.. I'm relatively new to the list... directed here by Dave
Otis after he sold me his (beautiful, I think) Heather..... '74 LAPD.
Prior to that it was a '74 850-T... Long gone.

Thanks... Bill
