Jay Williams, Muskogee Oklahoma. '71 Ambassador, '67 Stornello (ongoing
project), 197? Moto Guzzi Robin moped (future project), 1957 (so the title
says) Chang Jiang 750 (1938 BMW R71/sidecar copy).

Bought the Ambassador about five years ago. Great bike that I ride often.
But it is soon to be for sale. ONLY because I got a deal on a used Jackal
that was just too good to pass up and there is only room for one big solo
bike in my garage. (yeah, I know the Jackal isn't near the bike the Ambo
is...)
So my question for the list is, what sort of price should I put on this
bike? I do need to sell it, but not so urgently that I have to give it away.
A little about the bike:
'71 Ambassador, medium blue metallic w/ gold pinstripes and Guzzi
Eagles/lettering. Paint scheme looks stock, except for the fact that so far
as I can determine, they didn't make any blue Ambassadors. Chrome (police?)
front fender, Wixom hard bags (painted to match bike), solo seat and
matching, removable passenger seat for rear rack. Switchgear neatly replaced
with Suzuki components. Large sidecovers. Single speedo (no tach) in the big
aluminum bezel. Bar end mirrors. All the chrome is in good shape.
Clutch was replaced about 2000 miles ago. Brakes about 3000 miles ago.
Battery approx. 1 year old. K&N filter in stock airbox. Almost new Dunlops
front and back. Starts runs and rides great. Everything works. Only
mechanical problem is that the speedometer reads fast.
Synthetic oil w/ correct Guzzi additives in gearbox and rear drive. I've
always run synthetic oil in the engine, as well. I've not been into the
engine for any reason, other than valve adjustments and oil changes. It
seems a bit loose, as you would expect after 30 years, but oil consumption
is minimal, it doesn't smoke and makes good power.
Mileage shows to be just under 60,000, but doesn't mean much since cable was
broken when I got it, (but the speedo reads fast, so maybe it averages out.)
I've also got a spare Marrelli starter, an aftermarket dual seat and a few
other odds and ends that would go with it.
I will try and get some pics soon, but in the meantime, I'd appreciate any
feedback.
