Rick,

We'll figure it out :-)

Are the valves ok? I doubt that would be the problem but I think you have
checked just about everything else.

I think your compression is ok.

By the way...I think I asked this already but can't remember if I got an
answer from you. Tell us when the popping occurs. I assume that the bike is
warmed up. How is it at idle? How is it at constant throttle 2000rpm? At
high rpm? When you blip the throttle is there hesitation? Does it rev up ok?
Does the popping occur all the time or intermittently?

I still think that the problem lies in the carb. If it is popping that means
that the problem is a lean mixture which means either too little fuel or too
much air (ie an air leak). This means that the jets are blocked, mixture
screw is set too lean. Any other thoughts?

Another thought I was thinking. Maybe there is intermittent firing going on.
Likely not the coil but maybe the the problem is in the distributor? How
about the condensor?

We should take bet. Whomever is right is owed a beer by Rick :-) I guess the
problem is that you have to go to Biloxi to collect :-)

Regards....Ian

Well where are we,

As far as I know the bike has never been opened, pretty sure cause my
dad
has owned it since the early 70's and it was running when he got it. I
have
checked the timing marks of TDC to piston TDC and both valves are closed,
so
more than likely the cam is in ok. I will double check the Jets again, the
slide is in correctly, as I told Ian I tried to put them in backwards once
just to see the effect and couldn't get em in. I'll probably give you a
call this week Mark.
What is your guys opinion on the heavy blow by, I haven't opened the
cyclinders, but compression check yeilded just under 150 psi on both sides
(close to equal with 1 or 2 psi). I am now wondering if the chrome is
peeling, however the bike isn't smoking, well a little with the choke on.
Well seems as a group we are on a mission to get this bike running
better.
Thanks for the help I always try all suggestions. BTW is there anybody in
the Biloxi MS area on this list, I found out I am moving there in Apr and
looking for a Guzzi person there.
