Robert-

Exactly, as Ian pointed out, you can't mix the Bosch and Marelli parts.
Don't know the # for the battery. It's an EverStart Lawn and Garden
Tractor
Battery (that's all I can see without removing it). Just make sure the
terminals are on the correct sides so the cables reach.

Chris,
What is the part number of that battery that you got at WalMart for your
Guzzi?? Also, it is my understanding that when replacing a generator on
a

Guzzi one has to be sure that one does not mix Bosch electrics with
Marelli

electrics. It is my understanding that if you have Marelli electrics
everything must remain Marelli and same for Bosch. (If any Guzzi Pen
Pals

 know differently.......) Thanks, Bob Hawkes

GK-
Check the voltage regulator...I had an always dead battery until I
replaced
the regulator. Generator checked fine, starter was new. Replacing
the

voltage regulator should solve your problem.
As for batteries, I have used a wal-Mart Garden tractor battery for 2
years
now with absolutely no problem. My battery charger has a lot of dust
on

 it
now. Why pay $50-100 for a special motorcycle battery, when a $19.95
battery (that is suspiciously the exact same size as the original one)
works
 fine?
Another tip...Bosch generator on a Guzzi puts out 20-25 amps I think.
A

Bosch generator for a VW Type III (squareback, fastback, or notchback
VW

 part # 311 903 631F, Bosch # 0 101 302 089) genetates 30-40 amps. If
you
have a lot of energy consuming devices on your loop, I'd recommend
finding
one of these jewels...they have the same case (looks original) and
bolt

 right on!
Chow!

Hello,
I'm new to this site and already I have found it useful. I have a
70

Ambassador that I rebuilt last year. I had a popping in the right
cylinder at idle all last summer. I have had that carb out of the
bike

a half dozen times. I'll try the timing.
The other problem I have is low starter rpms. It's like I always
have

a dead battery. I had the starter rebuilt and the generator is
putting

out the proper voltage. My battery was new last year (the guy said
it's

the one they use in the Harleys) but maybe it's to small. Can anyone
recommend a good one? Or did I get a bad starter rebuild?
