Richard......I have been having the same thoughts.
Next week I pick up an Eldorado (1973, 2nd owner)
that has basically sat for 10 years. Present owner
said he did run it every summer, but only 50 miles or
so a year.
Has anyone looked at it yet? From what I gather sitting is not good on older
Guzzis. How many miles are on it. I paid $2500 back in July for my Ambassador
and it is all there. Not bad cosmetically, the pinstripes have been waxed
thin or off in spots and some of the chrome is pitting a bit but it still
gets lots of compliments. I actually am starting to like its 'well lived'
look as it has not been 'butchered' yet and is in it's stock condition. The
mechanics are my most concern at the moment and I am concentrating on getting
them slowly in order. Seals are a major sore point in 30 year old motocycles
and are going to take some time to go through and replace. A year or two ago
I would have said $2,200 sounded high for a loopframe in 'rough' condition
($750-1500 would have been more like it)
but in trying to find mine I watched the prices go up so $2200 may be a good
deal depending. Have someone do a compression test if you can and good luck.
Rich
