Well, this guy might have done the same, but he
appears to be sincere. He has not been too excited
to sell this bike. In fact, the first time I called
him, he was having second thoughts. He stated
he had the bike up for sale last summer, had a
buyer and then changed his mind. I told him
I wasn't going to waste my time on a special trip
to see the bike, unless he was truly ready to sell.
He then admitted that he had pulled the for sale
ad that week and was going to wait till the spring.
I said OK, but I was going to be in his part of
the state on business.in 3 weeks...so if things changed,
he should let me know.
Well, he calls the day before I leave and
schedules a look. I look and it's in good/fair shape
with a couple pieces missing (side covers and fender stay). I don't make an
offer (he's asking $2400), but
I do ask his bottom line. He says $2200 + he throws
in 2 extra saddles. I say I'll think about it. Five
days later I call and decide it's a fair deal and
agree to give the $2200. He wants deposit, because
I cannot pick it up for a couple of weeks. I tell him
my word is my deposit and I won't jerk him around.
He agrees to wait the 2 weeks.
My current plan is to pick it up this Saturday. But
will have him crank it up so I can hear it run before
handing the cash over.(He says it runs well)
This way, he will have time to prep the bike
(it is very cold here in Wisconsin)
and I haven't lost a dime if he is hosing me.....
I will keep all interested parties posted.
