Pete....I think you are right on that. Unless of course you are going for
the "army" look like Dave did on his "Olive" Ambo.

The chrome really sets the bike off right...no matter what the colour of the
bike be it black, white or red.

I generally like to see the old bikes in "original form" but it is neat to
see "mods" too. Like Tom's Cal Eldo, or Andy's green Eldo with pewter
frame...or Bill Kerylow's Eldo. All very nice with those personal touches
that make them unique and special.

Just digging for images in my mind here. How about a "reverse" coloured
bike? Everything that is chrome is coated black and everything that is
coloured painted silver..or white..or pewter?

Just letting my weird imagination work here :-)

I vote for chrome for a black bike. Maybe black would work on a white
bike.
 I think you need the high contrast between pipes and the body color.
But, its a subjective matter. As long as it pleases your eye, thats what
counts
