Ian,
I agree #1 sounds like the way to go, but I will stay tuned to see what the
experienced guys weigh in with.
It seems the same logic should hold for the front axle too

Hi All,

OK....not getting any warmer here in Montreal . Snow coming tomorrow. So
what else to do but think about my bike. As I do so....questions come to
mind. Here's the first:

When you are installing the rear wheel. What is the correct method.

1) slide the axle through and tighten the axle nut first and then the
pinch
bolt

or

2) slide the axle through and tighten the pinch bolt and then the axle
nut.

It seems to me that it makes more sense to use #1 because then you are
sure
the axle is nice and snug with the wheel. I think the manual says the
other
way though.

Regards...Ian
