All-
I noticed that everyone says lube the brake cable with oil or wd-40. While
these will work, both attract dust which gums up the whole works, has to be
cleaned, and re-lubed...which attracts dust which gums up...
(see where I'm going?). Guzziology reccommends using dry graphite powder to
lube cables. Slicker than any oil, and doesn't attract dust.
My clutch cable was real gummy feeling when I got my bike. Rode for a
while, then the inevitable cable break happened. Being the thrifty (cheap)
sort that I am, and since the cable broke at the very end, I had a new end
soldered on at my bike shop. Before I did it, I cleaned the hell out of the
cable and sleeve. After it was reassembled, I sqirted a bunch of graphite
in it (easier said than done, but still possible). My clutch cable is now
smoother than my friend's 2000 model crotch rocket's clutch cable. My hand
no longer gets tired during thru town trips where I'm shifting a lot.

Guys,

The brake cable doesn't return all the way when I release the handle and
the
shoes drag. If I push the handle open by hand the brake will move a little
more, but still some drag. I tried the obvious things like flushing the
cable with wd40 and then squirting some light oil down the cable. It seems
pretty free when I slide the cable with the ends unattached

I read in the Tips booklet that a new cable was recommended for best brake
performance.
I believe this could be the original cable. Is it worth buying a new
cable, or is this just a characteristic of the loop drums??
I dont have another loopframe in the neighborhood to look at.

Looking for any input.

Thanks a lot
Pete
