agree
my stock tail light had the bullet connections tucked into the brake light
housing
I saw some flexible plastic tubing, slit down the side for access at Pep
boys, color black
going to rout the new wiring thru that. I now have 4 wires instead of the
original 2 and they wont fit into the little metal clips inside the fender
anymore.

Well I'd put the connections outside the fender so they don't get covered
in
crap from the rear wheel. You can hide them in rear light mounting.

I'd also run the wires inside some sleeving for extra protection.

Methinks that the PO has done a bit o' kludging' with the wiring at the
rear tail light on my '72 Eldo. There is a small bit of speaker wire
spliced onto the wires from inside the rear fender for the tail light
and turn signal. And these connections are outside of the rear tail
light housing.

I'm going to replace the all the rear tail light wire with some real
auto wire this spring but where should I put the connections? Do they
belong inside or outside the housing?
