Hey Ian,
I guess I am a little paranoid as I just got on the road and don't want to
push. What is the top speed on this thing and about what MPH do I need to
shift, I am going by ear now probably on the conservative side. I finally
have a nice tan plug color. Hopefully next week end a friend that has a
trailer can go on a good 30 or 40 mile run that way if I break down he can
go back for the trailer. Probably will give me piece of mind, I really
don't expect problems, but my luck with vehicles is questionable sometimes.
The weather is great here just in the up and down mode last week it was 75
now it is down to 60 and raining, don't mind the rain when it is 75 but 60
is cold for this southern boy.
Well the wife finally gave me the OK on the new bike for sure. As soon as I
get the house sold I am going to order a new VStar 1100 Classic. I found a
discount bike shop in northern MS just a couple of hours from my Moms,
should be less than $8K out the door about a thousand less than here.
Any way I figured the noise was all normal, I am goignt o do another full
blown oil change motor tranny and rear gear. Just to make me feel better.

Well gotta go to Wally World.

Rick

Rick,

Noisy lifters are a good sign :-)

Yeah...there is a noticible tranny whine in 4th gear. When I first had my
bike I posted the same question to the list wondering if there was a
problem. From what I learned...it is quite normal. I believe that the
noise
is due to the fact that the gears are not helical cut gears.

Good to hear that you are on the road. I am so envious...we are still a
month away although I do see a few riders out on the warm days (around
freezing). I'll wait for a nice rain storm to wash away all the road salt
and then I will be ready to go.

Regards...Ian

Hi all,
I finally got my 67 V700 registered yesterday, driving to the court house
was the first long trip on the bike if you can call 10 miles round trip
long.
Any way the bike seems to make a lot of lifter/rocker noise. How much is
too much, I rechecked the valve lash today and it is at .1 mm in and ..203
mm out
which is what the book calls for. The bike doesn't seem to have a whole
lotta power either, although I was in traffic I did get up to 50 mph. Boy
do you get a lotta looks riding a loop frame. I still have a ways to go
to
finish it but at least I am riding it, I want to do a longer trip
tommorrow
maybe if it isn't raining. One other thing I noticed is a slight whinning
sound from the tranny is that normal, seemed louder at 45 or 50.

Thanks for all the advice from everyone,

Rick
