I even took the frame to a locksmith to see if they could pick the lock to remove it....no chance. It appears that there is a pin that hold the lock mechanism in place. You need the key to get it out. Maybe there is a person out there that can get it out but my locksmith couldn't. My advice is to pass on trying to fix it...period. Of course if there is someone out there that has figured it out please let me know. It is one small little thing that would have been cool to have working on the restored bird.....even if it is relatively insignificant. Also....I have a couple of blank keys if someone needs one but I believe they are common.
