Yes, but did you rotate the crank 720 degrees? TDC occurs once per rotation,
but you need two rotations to complete a 'cycle'. Perhaps you were adjusting
on the wrong rotation one time???

I've adjusted valves at the 'wrong' TDC before and then both valves
have clearance problems, not just one. I used the position of the
distrib. rotor to make sure that I was at the compression TDC for the
right cylinder. The loud 'CLUNK' is what I'm mystified with - just what
caused it?
