Scott,

Mine is also more blue on the right side. I have checked the timing with a
strobo
for both the left anf right sides. There was no noticeble difference there.
I have also tried to balance the carbs carefully so they should be ok too.
So, after this I stopped
worrying about the color of the downpipes.

You might check the color of the spark plugs after a harder ride to see if
the right one
runs very hot. In my bike the right spark plug always seems to have a
little lighter tan than the left one, but it seems not to run too hot.

Scott,

No problem!
It is weird how they tend to blue one side first. It could be any number of
things since the left and right cylinders are so different. On the
loopframes the main deal is that the distributor uses one set of points
with two lobes on the timing shaft. What that really boils down to is that
as the lobe wears the timing relationship between the two cylinders will
change. Since the engine is timed by the left cylinder, it would be
possible for the right to be off one way or the other enough to cause
pinging or a blue pipe.
Maybe I'll break out the degree wheel here and check the right cylinder on
mine. Could be interesting!

Thank you very much for your input.I will double check timing this
weekend and let you know what i find. What really concerned me is that it
was just the right side.I was under the impression that if it was a timing
issue it would be evident on both cylinders.Anyway, thanks again, really
appreciate you taking the time to respond. Hillsboro,NH
