No, Ian, it won't damage your bike. Like you, I rode for years without
venturis. I was perfectly happy. Although, my 73 Eldo had a hard time
pulling much over 5K and it got about 4mpg less than my friends identical
one. Then, one day, BJ Schwartz gave me a set of outer modified venturis.
Wow, I had a new bike and got a free 5mpg to boot. So, yes, you can live
with it your way and you'll be happy. You never would have known the
difference if I didn't tell you. However, since you will likely never return
to the original boot design (can't buy new or repro can you??), you might
just as well modify your original venturis to properly live within your K&N
filters.
