Rich,

I have the ignition on my 69 wired up to the key. I think it is cool
starting this old bike like a car. However there is, as you mentioned, a
problem if you stall it (say) at a light. The starter button makes it much
easier...and safer...to get on your way again. That's why I wired the 70
Ambo up with a start button by the throttle.

No problems yet with the 69 but it only takes one time. I figure that they
all did it back in the 70's so it should be ok....but we don't have the
volume and idiot drivers like we do today :-)

Regards....Ian

Subject: RE: start question

I guess I will chime in on the subject. My Ambassador has its own
starting demons and what I found is that after cleaning and checking all of
the wiring and connections, taking the starter/selenoid out and giving it a
good spray down with contact cleaner and making sure my battery is
completely charged that it sometimes depends on how I am pushing the
starter
button. If I casually hit it then the starter struggles, but if I firmly
press it in the middle it usually starts up with the vigor it should. I
have
another switch that I keep meaning to swap and try but have not gotten
around to it. I also am contemplating wiring it up to the switch but
wonder
how much trouble it is to take hands off of the throttle or clutch to turn
the key if the bike happens to stalls in traffic. Anyone run like this and
have opinions?
Thanks,
Rich
