Hello Guzzi list,

My 69 Ambassador lost the left big end rod bearing on the way home from w=
ork last night. I noticed a slight 'hammering' especially on load, and af=
ter dropping the oil pan, found bronze/aluminum looking shavings all over=
the bottom of the pan. Upon further investigation, I found the left rod =
bearing was shelled. There doesnt appear to be any damage to the crank pi=
n, but there is a little discoloration on the rod. I had the top end and =
heads done by Eish last fall, and Nikasil'd the cylinders, but I reused t=
he rod bearings, as I thought they looked ok. I also noticed there was oi=
l all over the rear wheel and it was coming from the breather hose. I hav=
e the later Lemans breather setup, which is supposed to work better than =
the Eldo/Ambo stock breather. My question is: why is there oil blowing ou=
t the breather? I even pulled the pistons to see if I also had a broken r=
ing, but the cylinders and rings look great. The oil screen looks like it=
did its job, as I dont see any metal particles floating around in the he=
ad or anywhere else. The top end still looked like it was getting plenty =
of oil. Anyone have experience with this type of engine failure? Will it =
be ok to install new rod bearings, standard size (000), like what is in t=
here now, and put it all back together? Any assistnace is appreciated.

Scott
