Keith,

If you are referring to the "weep hole" in the bell housing (which sits
between the tranny and the engine) then they put that there to allow
pressure and moisture to escape from the clutch area.

As you know we have dry clutches on our bikes. No oil should be in there. If
you do have oil coming out that hole then is is either coming out the engine
seal or migrating along the clutch push rod.

Something to think about here. When I was on my ride to the National last
year I noticed oil coming out of that weep hole. I figured that the rear
seal had gone bad. Well.....while I was at Dave Otis's place and we were
fiddling with the bikes I thought I might tighten the pan bolts a bit. Did
that and the bike hasn't dripped a drop in over 600 miles.

I would have sworn that the oil was coming from the bell housing. In
thinking about this I figured that maybe as I was riding oil was migrating
to the back of the bike and then getting (sucked??) up by the bell housing?
Just a guess.

Check the simple things first.

Good luck...Ian

Subject: Oil Leak

Think this a standard for Moto Guzzi's, but was wondering if there is a
fix. My Ambo has been sitting in the garage on it's center stand for a
few weeks now as I have been doing some home improvement stuff and
working on her in my spare time. I don't want to take her out for a
cruise until I figure out this Gen Warning Light/charging system
dilemma. I noticed some oil under the engine, laughed when I saw it as
I hear they all leak a few drops when sitting. Even my neighbor and my
mechanic have oil spots under their Guzzi's. I took a look underneath
to see where it is coming from, and initially I thought it was the oil
drain plug, but upon further investigation, it appears the oil is
weeping out of a small hole that is on the engine casing, then runs down
around the oil drain plug, then onto the floor. Looks like some sort of
vent hole or something. Can anyone tell me what this hole is and if
there is anyway to prevent the oil from weeping out? The hole is not on
the oil pan, it's on the bottom of the engine case just in front of the
oil pan/drain plug towards the front of the bike.

Thanx,
