Sorry about the last message with no body text!
I just got back from a 200 mile ride (my bike is running fine and the
high RPM cut-out gremilin is gone for now!?).
At about mile 120 ( as I was rolling on to a ferry to cross Puget
Sound), I shifted into neautral and watched with disbelief as my shift
lever fell onto the steel deck! BTW my bike is a 73 Eldo. I got off
and thanked the diety that this didn't happen on the road. Next I began
to inspect the part... metal fatigue... the shaft simply broke off just
leaving about an eight of an inch of the shaft sticking out of the pedal
clamp! Anyone ever had this happen before? First question... how do I
remove the remainder of the shaft? I thumbed through the manual and
Guzziology and did not see any exploded views. I will be calling a few
places tomorrow to see if this is a readily available part.
To make a long story short, I was able to reef on the linkage and get it
into 2nd gear and limped home @ 30-35 MPH!. For what ever reason... I
couldn't get third gear to pop... oh well my clutch probably thanks me
for it.
