well, this is somewhat embarassing- i was happily motoring along, almost
home, when the speedo just quit. so, like the ham-fisted wrench that i am, i
started unthreading the cable- housing from the drive-end. hmmmm- feels like
the cable is turning too. turn it some more [slightly agitated]- snap!
hmmmm- now i recall that i had to remove the drive gear along w/ the cable
when i tore this puppy down, a couple of years ago. !!##@$&%^(##)!! the
cable would NOT come out of the drive gear then, either! well, it's out now!
after drilling out the gear [carefully, for me]& cleaning out the crap from
the cable [yep, i tried heat first-bernzomatic], i gotta make up a new
cable, but found nothing wrong w/ it , xcept for what i just did, so no, i
haven't tested it @ the speedo-head [that woulda made much more sense, huh?]
drive gear looks perfect, rest of the cable looks good too, so ???
sigh, job security.

Need more info. You said the cable wasn't broken, but??????
Does the cable turn with the transmission and the speedo has failed, or does
the cable not turn? It could be a broken speedo or it could be stripped
gears at the helical drive on the transmission. (the latter is difficult
but
can be repaired in the bike)
