My brother in law has these cool disc mounted on the wheels of his old FLH
pan head. They are mercury balancers. It is similar to the set ups used on
semi's. I have also seen a mercury fly wheel balancer available for
Guzzi's also. I think the advantage of a fluid balancer is that is
constantly corrects the balance of the wheel if it's condition changes vs.
weights, were if the condition of your tire or wheel changes it may become
out of balance. A buddy of mine has a bmw with mag wheels. He hit the
mother of all pot holes one night. After that he would get a vibration
around 50. We checked the rim & front end and could not find anything
wrong. So we removed the stick on weights for the hell of it and most of it
went away. He had the wheel rebalanced the next day and it rides smooth as
glass.

I pulled a 16d nail out of my tire this evening. For those who don't know,
16d is 3 1/2" long. It probably punctured the wheel side of my tube too!
The stuff I have in the tire for balancing came out a little, but then
stopped. I think it stopped the leak, but I'm gonna change the tube
anyway.
Damn....$50 bucks I really didn't want to spend. Oh well, I'll have to
get over it.
Has anyone ever used the balancing liquid? Is there any disadvantage to
using it (besides making the tire weigh more) versus manually balancing?
Thanks!
