just a guess, but it sounds as tho the bendix spring is weak,or else theres
a bunch of grunge on the tube,- i'd yank it off& take it apart for a good
inspection/cleaning. be4 ya eat up the flywheel/burn up the starter.

Ok now I do have a problem with my starter. Trust me to open my mouth and
now something is wrong!!
Sometimes when I start her up, the starter seems to hang on awhile longer
and makes a nasty whine. Could this be the bearing in the front that's
causing this?

Ok I see I just opened up a whole can of beans here. Nothing is wrong with
my starter, I just wanted to find out if there was maybe an alternative that
someone had tried other than the Valeo, Marelli or Bosch that worked fine
without any problems. I know my brother has an extra VW bus starter that I
was going to see if it might work just for the hell of it.
