What you are missing is that the spacer is tapered on the end nearest
the mounting flange. I suppose that I could have gotten out the Dremel
tool and ground away some metal down there and then used a shorter allen
head bolt. In that case a hex head bolt would not have been an option as
there is just not enough room in the recess of the flange. With the
spacer I have the option of using either an allen or a hex.

rod.
