Hi All,
I've never had the bearings out of the front wheel, but have on the
back. Aren't the front tapered roller bearings like the rear? If so,
couldn't the play be taken out by swapping out the shims between the
bearing and spacer (inside)? We did just that on my buddy Dan's Eldo and
it worked just fine. The disk brake front ends probably have ball
bearings though. Just thinkin'

If it is moving at the hub, it sounds more like trashed wheel
bearings. Have
you had this wheel off recently? Are you certain the axle is inserted
and
adjusted correctly? Did you properly tighten the axle nut BEFORE you
tightened the fork pinch bolts?
