Paul,
Thats a big negative on the paint, typical (but cool) paint. I have a 71
Ambo. Couldn't be happier with it, moves along happily at 75mph on a
nice day, it will very depending on the temp. but generally 65-75mph.
This looks like a nice one regardless of wether or not it's police. I
think it would be worth a look. The seller might be confused as to what
a police model is acually equiped with, on not necessarily trying to
pull something over..
Good luck

Kev

Thomas, Kevin and Craig, thanks very much for your responses and
advice.
Sounds like this bike may be civilian with a few police bits (the owner
told me the bike was a police model and that the bracket at the back
behind
the seat was originally for the radio). I figured it should have floor
boards and that the seat was wrong for a cop bike, but then again if
someone wanted a bike for everyday use i suppose they would be the
things
to change. It might be worth a look anyhow. What about the colour
scheme
- does that give anything away?

The price is in A$, which means you can just about halve it for US$. I
have to admit I'm tempted to buy one in the US and ship it out here -
there
just aren't enough around locally to be able to be picky it seems.

A couple of questions - Is it the case that the Ambassador is less
practical to use than the El Dorado (called the 850 GT in Australia and
also Europe I believe). I'm thinking the Ambassador has one less gear
and
is a 750 as opposed to an 850, but does that make real difference
touring?
What is a comfortable touring speed on them?

Paul that is a plain old civilian model. All police bikes come with
floor
boards, not foot pegs.

Hi list - just a brief introduction and a request for help. I'm an
aspiring loopframe owner that has been observing from afar (Sydney
Asutralia) for a couple of weeks now. I currently own a 1974 Ducati
Desmo
Single that I'm looking to get rid of so I can get a loop. I though I'd
start the search early because there aren't a great number of loopframes
out here it seems. Perhaps you guys can help me figure out from the
photo
 at

http://www.e-motorcycle.com.au/moto_guzzi_motorcycles_for_sale.htm

whether this potential purchase is a genuine LAPD Ambassador? It's
located
a long way from civilisation - Bundaberg in Queensland, but if it's the
real deal I'm going for a holiday nearby in a couple of weeks, so I'll
go
view it then.

Thanks in advance for your help - I'm impressed with the wealth of
information you guys share.

Regards,

Paul
