Took me a week but I found the time tonight to pull the starter. I
wanted
to go for a ride but she just said no. Just sat there smoking again. Maybe
she was mad cuz I took the Cagiva out yesterday for ride to work day. Anyway
pulled the starter, removed the end cover and the main cover. Bunch of
crusty
looking stuff fell out. I found the half full can of contact cleaner, a
toothbrush, some 320 sandpaper, rags and went to town cleaning out all of
the
nooks and krannies. Resisted the temptation to wrinkle black the main case
and put it back together. Cleaned all the wires and wire brushed all of the
nuts and washers. Put the key in, pushed the starter button and she came to
life quicker then any time in the year I've owned her. Lets hope that was
it.
Stopped and started it about 10 times and everytime was the same. The only
problem with the whole operation was that I found an awful lot of oil
roaming
inside the clutch housing. Rear main seal time come winter. Till then I am
in
denial about it.
Ah, life is good again not that it wasn't before but sometimes I just
surprise myself at how mechanically inclined I can be with this bike.
Rich
