<P>I think I would be a little upset as well if I paid the price for a complete restoration. I can identify with some of the electrical problems but I am riding an unrestored eldo with just under 148,000 miles on the odometer from which I put 122,000 on myself. I replaced my Bosch with a Valeo at around 99,000 and have had to replace 2 relays and a couple of light bulbs, what a gip!!! ( Just kidding). I now have a new wiring harness but would like advice on the oversimplification process Dave spoke of since I have proof that electricity ain't my business. I think the problem eldo is not the norm and I would hope that the folks that restored it would work with you on this to mitigate whatever the problem is. I know several folks interested in finding an old eldo but I don't know anyone that would like to release any R-series Beemers at present. </P></DIV>
<P>I will keep my eyes open.</P></DIV>
<P>Good luck:</P>

<DIV></DIV>>Ian, I can't believe that's all the miles you have on that 70 Ambo, is it a
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>trailer /garage queen or something? Norine has twice that already.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>As for loopframes, my thoughts:
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>The sweetest engine ever made for a bike, runs forever, and doesn't ask for
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>much other than clean oil, and a tweek once and a while.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>Aftermarket ignition? Why? the stock one will always get you hame, carry a
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>spare set of points and condenser, cap and rotor just in case. Dual point
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>ignigion? Why in the world would you want to introduce that kind of a
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>problem? To run better, when how? what rpm? If you want a race bike you
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>don't
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>need a loopframe. To make it easier to set up? No way! No added value, just
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>a
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>problem (all this is my opinion of course, but kinda backed up with
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>experience) If your loopframe engine is set up properly, you don't need
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>chokes and you don't need a $500.00 starter to make it start, a quick touch
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>of the button and she roars (I can't imagine wearing out a starter on a
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>properly tuned loopframe)! If it doesn't something is wrong. It's a simple
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>process, compression? spark? fuel? runs! if not is the spark at the right
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>time? is the fuel good? Wireing? I always rewire and overly simplify it, I
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>dislike the origional wiring and consider it much too complicated. In
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>reality
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>all you need to make a loopframe run is a wire from the battery to the coil!
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>An easy way to troubleshoot electrical problems, and a nice backup just in
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>case, always carry a jumper wire. There is nothing with a loopframe, they
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>are
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>the sweetest ride around, I can't explain how cool they are just purring
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>down
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>the road, you guys that RIDE them know what I mean, you have to experience
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>it
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>> I enjoy my loopframe more than my EV, and I never forget to turn off the
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>turn signal on the loopframe. (maybe that's because I use my hand) If you
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>want a loopframe, you can go several ways, a used one, (don't forget they
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>are
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>30 years old) you can ride it and bear with it, you'll have problems here
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>and
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>there, or you can restore it to origional and make a few upgrades perhaps,
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>or
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>you can buy one restored and then you deal with who put it together and how.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>They are simple bikes and that is one of the things that makes them cool. If
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>you don't want to put the mechanicals right, then you will heat up your
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>starter trying to get going, flood easily and start hard because your
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>compression is low, have weak or intermitent spark because of bad wiring.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>Fix
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>it, it's much more fun that way! I know Guzzzi riders are cheap at heart,
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>but
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>if you want the problems to go away, make things right without cutting
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>corners and hit the road on two wheels.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>I'm just ranting here having a good time.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>One more thing a lot of people have payed a lot of money to a certain dealer
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>and it seems they all have one thing in common, Problems! You can always
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>expect a few bugs, but they shouldn't be major.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>>Oh yes and my loopframe is extremely reliable!
