Have you tried the low tech fixes? Mark at MG CLassics, against all proper
business practices, insisted that I try the fixes before I buy a replacement
from him.

1)make sure the ground connection is solid. continuity from the body of the
reg (base not cover) should be close to the same as the reading as when the
probes are crossed.

2) clean out the contacts. I used 600 grit sand paper between all three sets
of contacts. I did this without the unit in the bike. I imagine it woul be
nearly impossible with the unit in place.

3) hose it out with some good electric contact cleaner. the stuff I have
says it's safe for circuit boards.

4) with the bike running, operate each of the contacts manually.

Lo and behold it worked. Mark lost the sale but gained a customer.

After much poking and prodding around my '69 Ambo with my multi
meter, I've discovered that my generator is in fine but the regulator
took a dump. It's a Marelli unit; anybody out there got one or know how
much they're worth?
Replies will be gratefully acknowledged, thanks!
