The little filters they sell for windshield washer supply are closer to
the line size. Any thing to accumulate the oil and allow the air to
escape.

Fair enough. The old racer trick for crank case venting is to stick a
tube
on and route it as vertical/uphill as possible and stick some copper
wool,
scotch brite pad, etc in the tube. Then the tube doesn't have to be so
long.
I just read in the tips sheets to use a gas line filter.

I just did this.
It doesn't look bad at all. In fact, it looks like it should be there.
I drilled the hole large enough to tap for a 6mm fitting intended for a
carb sync appartus. It's in there now. The tubing cannot be seen for
more
than about three inches before it disappears behind the sidecover.
However. now that I've tested it on a 50 mile run I will substitute the
clear tubing for a piece of appropriate diameter braided fuel line.
Looks
better.
and now, no more oil dribbles on the case.

Certainly and effective solution. But seems it would look kinda nasty.
Perhaps you just need to replace the spring?

Years ago I had an Eldo. It leaked badly out the hole in the shift
detent

plug on the left side. I drille the hole slightly larger to 1/8" and
inserted a small tube and soldered in place. Then attached a fish tank
air

hose and ran it up into the battery compartment in an inverted U. You
could
see oil in the tubing, but it never went more than a couple inches high.
