Oh and I forgot to mention....

I stopped at a coffee stand for a cuppa and I am sitting there with another
rider when I hear this *crunch*. A woman ina Volvo backed into the Ambo. I
get up and walk over to where this lady is shitting purple twinkies.

I tell her to just relax and let's take a look and see what is up.

her bumper hit the folded up highway peg on the crashbar and pusked it
aroound the crash bar. The front of the bike got moved maybe an inch or so.
No damage.

I go back and the guy is like "Man ain't you gonna ride it? get her number?
something?"

Why? she hit the crash bar and gave the bike a nudge on the police sidestand
whick kept it from going over. shit the spark plug hole is lined up with the
bumper and she didn't break the cap.

so I told him "If this was my Honda VTR or your pretty new BMW there would
have been money involved. This is an old goose. too simple to break"

I love being on vacation. I have been having a great time just noodling
around on the Ambo and then tweaking it in the garage. Now I'm all tuned
and
ready to get out of town. Bike is getting loaded today and I ramble off for
a week. No particular destination.

Oh and Patrick, I think you are right, the valve guides may be leaking. I
have a fix that I simply MUST gloat over...later

I also love Bike Karma. Though I do get impatient when the dividends take a
long time to pay off. Wednesday I did the whole legalization thing on the
Ambo. STate patrol ispection, license plate....spendy. Then I went down to
my fave tav for a cold one to celebrate. I ran into a couple buddies and
they said the Classic Motorcycle CLub was meeting that night. I figured
whathehell, Im on vacay...and I go. They have been tryiong to get me to
join
for a long time. But I'm kinda not really fond of clubs. There I run into
My buddy Bill, who is the Ultimate Scrounger. Every time I see him, he has
an old Norton, Bsa, etc that he just picked up for a couple hundred bucks
and it runs. Really pisses a guy off. But it's like a woman calling another
woman "bitch" because she is prettier. a waste of time. SO Bill turns me
onto a gig. The guy at this old bike shop is getting gentrified out of the
place. So he needs to offload a pile of stuff. SUper nice guy. Always
helping folks out. But I thought he was a brit bike dude, so I never went.
Turns out he has some old guzz junk. SO I ramble off to the place and
introduce myself. He points me at the pile. lots of worn cyclinders waiting
to be sleeved, misc carb bits, a box of sealed transmission gears. And then
I found my treasures....

a civilian Ambo SPeedo. Mine went blooey in the first 5 miles. This one has
75k on it, but it was intact.

A brand new left 750 head.

I laid the parts and asked what the price was....holding my
breath...fearing
and knowing I would have to make a decision and only get one part or the
other.

2 minutes later I am out of there with both units in my hands. SWEET!

SO I got a speedo and a NOS (or what appears to be NOS) left head for my
bike.

Bike KArma Pays off. All the times I pulled over in the rain to help a dude
with a DOA bike. All the times I helped someone get into bikes...pays off.

There was an item there that may be of interest to the list. There is a
fairing that I have never seen before. It looks like a cross between a
wixom
and a windjammer. I don't think it has pockets though. It is quite rounded,
black and pinstriped like the old wixom bags often were. But he swears it
comes from New York and only a few were made. It has lowers that fit around
the cylinders, no plexi or mounts. Looks brand new. The dude says it only
has shelf wear on it. He wants a couple or 300 bucks for it.
