I think the best is to braze new rods on. If you don't want to repaint,
ya might just
braze steel rod to a small flange and then rivet the flange rod assembly
to the cover.

The PO of my old Eldo had taken threaded rod and carefully bent it into
a "Z"
shape similar to the original hook. He then put a nut on one end,
passed it
through a hole in the bottom of the sidecover and nutted the other side.
The
two nuts clamp together on the bottom lip of the sidecover. Worked for
years. Let me know if you need a drawing. I can't photo as I no longer
own
that machine.
